starting in 2017 on Wednesday 18th January.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING  held at the Nelson Butt on Wednesday 15th November 2017.

The Chairman opened the meeting and thanked everyone for their support throughout the previous year.
The Election of Officers was then conducted with all relevant positions taken up.
The newly-elected Chairman, Denis Chandler, then thanked those members who had been  appointed Officers.
As there was no other business the meeting was closed at 20.00 hours.

Armistice Day in Spilsby 2017


The Branch held its October 2017 meeting at the Nelson Butt, Spilsby on the 18th of the month.

The Chairman, Mr. D. Chandler opened the meeting and welcomed members.

In the absence of The President Mr. R. Worth, The Chairman recited The Act of Homage.

Apologies were taken and the minutes were read and accepted.

The various committees then gave their reports, which included an update from the Branch Secretary, Mrs A Lenton on the success of the ‘Night to Remember’ function which was held on the 14th of October at the Franklin Hall.

There are currently 59 members of the Royal British Legion ( Spilsby and District Branch ).

Mr M Lenton gave an update on the current rota system for the shop outlets in Spilsby for the ‘Poppy Appeal’ which starts on 28th October 2017.

Further discussions also took place regarding the forthcoming Remembrance Homage at 11.00am on Saturday 11th November 2017 at the Sir John Franklin Statue, High Street, Spilsby. Assembly is at 10.45am for said Homage.

In addition, arrangements were made for the Remembrance Parade on Sunday 12th November 2017. Assembly is at 10.15am on said day at The Buttercross car park, Market Street, Spilsby. The Parade will commence at 10.30am and march to the St. James Church, Church Street, Spilsby.

A service at said church will follow.

After the service, the parade will assemble and return march to the forecourt of the petrol station, opposite The Terrace, Spilsby, where the Mayor of Spilsby will address the parade.

Votes were then taken for the appointment of the position of County Vice Chairman.

There being no other business the Chairman closed the meeting at 21.17hrs.

The next meeting will be held at the Nelson Butt, Spilsby, on Wednesday 15th November 2017, commencing 19.30hrs.

The A.G.M. will start at 19.30hrs. followed by the ordinary meeting.

The various committees then gave their reports, which included an update from the Branch Secretary, Mrs A Lenton on the forthcoming ‘Night to Remember’ function on the 14th of October. Ticket sales were going well.

There are currently 58 members of the Royal British Legion ( Spilsby and District Branch ).

Mr M Lenton gave an update on the current rota system for the shop outlets in Spilsby for the ‘Poppy Appeal’ which starts on 28th October 2017.

Further discussions also took place regarding the memorial service at Sibsey on 1st October, an update on the G90 memorial at Ypres in August 2018 and the planting of 25,000 trees at Glebe Farm to commemorate the ending of World War 1.

The annual Christmas Dinner was booked at the Nelson Butt, Spilsby for Friday 8th December 2017.

There being no other business the Chairman closed the meeting at 20.36hrs.

The next meeting will be held at the Nelson Butt, Spilsby, on Wednesday 18th October 2017, commencing 19.30hrs.

The various committees then gave their reports, which included an update from the Branch Secretary, Mrs A Lenton on the forthcoming Remembrance Sunday Parade on Sunday 12th November 2017.

There are currently 58 members of the Royal British Legion ( Spilsby and District Branch ).

It was reported that the final sum donated by the public from the Spilsby and District Branch of the Royal British Legion for the Poppy Appeal 2016/17 was £12,379.27p.

A BIG THANK YOU to all for their generosity.

Mr N Petit gave members an update on the ‘Night to Remember’ ball being held at the Franklin Hall, Spilsby on Saturday 14th October 2017.

Mr M Lenton requested volunteers for the Poppy Appeal 2017/18, which will commence on Saturday 28th October 2017. A rota system was discussed for the various shop outlets.

Discussions also took place regarding the centenary of the end of W.W.1 which will take place next year. It is hoped an event can be arranged to take place in Spilsby during 2018.

There being no other business the Chairman closed the meeting at 20.50hrs.

The next meeting will be held at the Nelson Butt, Spilsby, on Wednesday 20th September 2017, commencing 19.30hrs.

It was reported the sum of £138.22p was raised at the recently held Extravaganza at the King Edward V1 Academy, Spilsby

An update on the Recruitment event to take place at the Franklin Hall on Saturday 14th October 2017 was given by fellow member, Nick Pettit.

There was a general discussion relating to Pilgrimages to the World War 1 battlefields next year ( Centenary of the end of World War 1 ).

In addition, a further discussion took place regarding plans to commemorate the end of World War 1, with a local event in Spilsby.

There being no other business the Chairman closed the meeting at 20.47hrs.

The next meeting will be held at the Nelson Butt, Spilsby, on Wednesday 16th August 2017, commencing 19.30hrs.

The forthcoming Spilsby Show on 9th July was discussed and those wishing to take part in the Parade should assemble at 11.30am for the briefing.

An update on the Recruitment event to take place at the Franklin Hall on Saturday 14th October 2017 was given by fellow member, Nick Pettit.

The Chairman, Mr. D. Chandler opened the meeting and welcomed members.

In the absence of the Branch President, the Chairman then recited the Act of homage.

Apologies were taken and the minutes were read and accepted.

The various committees then gave their reports.

There are currently 61 members of the Royal British Legion ( Spilsby and District Branch ).

The Social Secretary reported that the St. George’s Day celebration had been a success.

Branch members will attend an ‘Extravaganza’ event at the local Kind Edward V1 Academy, Spilsby on Friday 30th June 2017, where a recruitment drive will be on display.

There being no other Business, the Chairman closed the meeting at 8.41pm.

The next meeting will be held at the Nelson Butt, Spilsby on Wednesday 21st June 2017 commencing 7.30pm.

There are currently 56 members of the Royal British Legion ( Spilsby & District Branch ).

The Social Secretary reminded members of the forthcoming St. George’s Day celebration dinner, to be held at the Masonic Hall, Spilsby on Saturday 22nd April 2017.
Members were also reminded of a forthcoming coach trip to the National Arboretum
on the 29th May 2017.

As a result of the on-going recruitment drive for additional members, a sub-committee was formed to discuss ways of implementing this process.

There being no other business, the Chairman closed the meeting at 8.22pm.

The next meeting will be held at the Nelson Butt, Spilsby on Wednesday 17th May 2017, commencing 7.30pm.

The Social Secretary reminded members of the forthcoming St. George’s Day celebration dinner, to be held at the Masonic Hall Spilsby on Saturday 22nd April 2017. Guests are welcome.

A recruitment drive to welcome new members will be implemented during March and April 2017.

Due to refurbishment at the Nelson Butt, the next meeting will be held at the George Hotel, Market Street Spilsby.

There being no further business, the Vice – Chairman thanked all in attendance and closed the meeting at 20.25 hours.

I have the pleasure of informing you that the Spilsby and District Poppy Appeal 2016, has recorded its highest figure EVER of £11,803.83 ( and still counting ). This reflects not only the generosity of the public,  but also the hard work by ALL the Collectors.

On behalf of the Royal British Legion, ( Spilsby and District Branch ) I would like to thank everyone for their generosity and hard work in realising this fantastic sum of money.

King Edward V1 Academy, Spilsby, presented a show entitled ‘Lest we forget’

On 9th November 2016, students at the King Edward V1 Academy, Spilsby, presented a show entitled ‘Lest we forget’, in support of the Royal British Legion ( Spilsby and District ).

Presentation of a cheque by the Principal, Mrs. Jo Myhill-Johnson to the Chairman of the Spilsby and District Branch of the Royal British Legion, Mr. Denis Chandler, for the sum of £270.42p in relation to the Poppy Appeal of 2016.
